SCT’s Mission Statement
Sierra Classic Theatre enhances the quality of life in the Eastern Sierra through the art of quality theatre.
Mission Statement regarding accessibility
Sierra Classic Theatre strives to make its performances accessible to all people. We encourage people with disabilities to participate and attend our shows and programs and we strive to do our very best to accommodate any requests to help make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable. If you have questions, need assistance, or want to secure an accommodation please contact us at 323.646.5055 (voice) or sct@sierraclassictheatre.org.
What SCT is known for....
Sierra Classic Theatre emphasizes the "classics" (often Pulitzer-Prize or Tony-winning plays) because they are well-written, beautiful, thought-provoking works of art. They can stand alone in their impact. Our mission as a non-profit theater company is to give the community the opportunity to experience great theater in their own back yard.
Sierra Classic Theatre was founded in 1999. While we are primarily located in Mammoth Lakes, CA, we have also offered shows in the surrounding, Eastern Sierra communities. We are supported with volunteer effort, both on- and off-stage, and our primary financing for our productions is through our annual Murder Mystery dinner (a "local's favorite") in the Fall as well as with our generous donations.
SCT is always looking for new members, actors and volunteers. Visit our Volunteer page, or contact us at thesierraclassictheatre@gmail.com for more information!
SCT Gives back to it's community....
Part of SCT's mission is to give back to the community that supports us. One of the ways we have done this is to provide Donation Only Shakespeare at Sam's Woodsite for the past 7 consecutive years. This family friendly event invites everyone to attend. Our goal is to share The Bard's work with the masses regardless of socio-economic standing. Like the great Shakespeare festivals around the world this event can be attended for free and we simply ask for a donation to SCT if you can afford it.
On June 10, 2016 SCT gave it's FIRST EVER Scholarship Awards to Mammoth High School graduating seniors that showed a particular passion for storytelling and the dramatic arts. SCT has continued to support our graduating seniors since.
Play Reading Series....
SCT introduced an informal play reading series in 2016. Members have an idea to read a new play, or an old play or a yet to be published play and we all figure out a night to read it out loud. Sometimes we will read it at someone's house and sometimes we will cast it, rehearse it and put it on as a staged reading in a theater. This is a great opportunity for actors that cannot commit the time it takes to be involved in a full production. It is also a way of coming together and providing a theater arts experience when a full production is possible. We hope to have these informal reading series on a bimonthly basis going forward. If you would like to be notified for our next reading or have a play you think should be read allowed please fill out the contact form below.
We will be doing a Staged Reading Series at The Edison Theater over MLK weekend.
Where is your theater?
Sierra Classic Theatre does not own a theater space. Rather, our seasonal productions take place at different venues throughout Mammoth Lakes. Be sure to check out information on all of our shows to find out where and when we will be performing.
Membership
SCT membership is offered to any person who has been in, involved in, volunteered, or donated to our company. We celebrate our members with an annual membership party in Mid-September, at a Mammoth Lakes Pizza parlor. The pizza and wine is on us.
